The 2007 Community Leaders had a small discussion focussing on how to characterise the strengths of "your community"? Places from Hobart to Bairnsdale to Cairns; farming communities, arts communities, rural, regional and seachange. Plenty of diversity of course: here are the strengths which were discussed:
Resilience was a quality mentioned in the discussion, as well as
the ability to adapt to harsh environments,
passion,
hard-working attitudes, and
perseverance.
To balance these qualities of endurance and strength, we've heard about
diversity,
alternate life-styling,
"remnants of counterculture",
peaceful and stimulating communities and environments.
Does this reflect the Australian character? Hard-working, yet fully able to relax and explore new ideas?
Seems the communities that the leaders are working with have a broad range of qualities .. we all look forward to finding out more about their experiences working within these extraordinary settings.
